Why Dressage and the passion for Pony Dressage?
As a junior rider,
I found my interest for training and dressage while competing on ponies. I particularly liked the way dressage had feedback and marks on a test sheet. The written explanation and correlating mark to movement seemed more ‘fair’ and rewarding for correct riding than showing and other disciplines.
To this day,
I am still very interested in the development of Pony Dressage and find it is a great pathway for junior riders to enter into the sport. The comments on a test are a great way for riders to reflect, learn and improve their riding. It highlights accuracy, encourages personal goal setting and promotes the importance of understanding the training scale, and why we should strive to develop correct foundations in riding.
Training styles and influence
I like to follow the values within the German Training Scale.
Rhythm Suppleness Contact. Impulsion Straightness Collection
I also use elements of Parelli groundwork and classical in-hand exercises (long-reining, laterals on the ground, double lunging) especially when working with young ones. However, each horse is different and I don't like to box them into a specific genre and value the benefits of cross training.
